Renewable Africa Initiative

who we are

A data-driven policy & advisory organization

The Renewable Africa Initiative (RAI) is focused on enabling a credible, investable, and inclusive energy transition across Africa.

RAI works at the intersection of community energy demand, project readiness, and stakeholder engagement to support more implementation-oriented energy transitions.

Our work focuses on strengthening the connections between local energy realities, project development, financing pathways, and institutional collaboration to support more sustainable and locally grounded energy solutions.

We focus on systemic challenges that undermine delivery — not just technical design — to improve coherence between policy ambition, institutional capacity, and stakeholder realities.

Policy Implementation

Supporting the translation of energy transition commitments into practical and locally grounded implementation pathways.

Community & Youth Engagement

Strengthening meaningful participation of communities and young people in clean energy planning, delivery, and innovation ecosystems.

Climate Finance Readiness

Supporting stronger connections between community energy realities, project readiness, and financing conversations.

Localized Energy Intelligence

Generating community-level insights on energy reliability, productive use, affordability, and willingness to pay.

Project & Ecosystem Development

Supporting early-stage clean energy initiatives through stakeholder engagement, concept development, and implementation-focused collaboration.

Global Engagement

Contributing African implementation perspectives to international energy and sustainability discussions through engagement across global energy platforms.

RAI has demonstrated its ability to bridge global frameworks with African delivery realities through high-level strategic engagements.

Turning Policy into People-Centred Practice

RAI co-convened “From Policy to People: Governing Just and Community-Centred Energy Transitions” at the IRENA Youth Forum 2026 alongside the IRENA Assembly — with UNIDO and the Government of Germany as institutional contributors.

Advancing Youth & Community-Centred Transitions

Through alignment with the SDG7 Youth Constituency and Youth Sustainable Energy Hub, RAI has reframed inclusion as a delivery, credibility, and risk management issue — connecting youth-led innovation to policy and governance processes.

Energy Transition Skills at COP30

At COP30, RAI co-led “Energy Transition Skills, Innovation, and Capacity Exchange” at the Global Renewables Hub with IRENA Youth, the Austrian Parliament, GAYO, and the Africa Just Transition Network. Insights are being translated into a UN Youth Office policy paper.

National Youth Policy Engagement — Ghana

RAI has also supported regional dialogues focused on youth participation, community-centred development, and implementation-oriented energy governance discussions within African policy spaces.

RAI acts as a strategic enabler for platforms that translate grassroots insights into policy-relevant outcomes at the global level.

United Nations Processes

Active engagement in UN-Energy and SDG7 policy processes to ensure African delivery perspectives shape global frameworks.

Mission 300

Engagement with Mission 300 to link African energy transition realities to high-level commitments.

IRENA & Youth Leadership

Strategic partnership with IRENA Youth leadership to co-convene forums bridging top-level policy with community-centred delivery realities.

Africa Just Transition Network

Collaboration to ensure African innovation pipelines feed meaningfully into global decision-making bodies and processes.
